Compared to its competitors, the 2023 Head Radical Pro provides power and control with ease. It felt like I could slow down my swing and still gain levels of power that aren’t readily available by its counterparts. I never felt the need to muscle my groundstrokes, because the evenly balanced weight of the racquet combined with Head’s Auxetic technology, made for a highly stable feel on contact. During playtests, I typically measure a racquet’s stability by the amount the racquet twists in my hand during contact, and by the innate response of the racquet when I make contact slightly outside of the racquet’s sweet spot. With that in mind, this updated model fortunately gave me more confidence to go for both hard-hit groundstrokes, and delicately placed feel shots like dropshots and lobs.
As a Radical user myself, I’m certainly biased towards these racquets. However, I am very selective when it comes to the specific generation and iteration of Radical. My bread and butter is the 2019 Radical Pro Graphene 360. In my opinion, the 2021 generation Radical Pro with Graphene 360+ technology was a disappointment. As Head moved away from the more squared off design in the hoop of the frame that was used in the 2019 rendering of the Radical, I felt like the racquet lost the control that my game desired from the Graphene 360 version. However, Head responded in 2023 by cleaning up the imperfections that came with the out-going model. Thanks to their new Auxetic technology, Head managed to improve the feel massively, giving the people a racquet that is more responsive to the demands of the modern game.
