Doug Atkinson, Director of Tennis
Doug Atkinson is the Director of Tennis and Head Pro at Broadstone Racquet Club, and the Junior Tennis Academy Director at Broadstone for all Spare Time Clubs. Doug has been teaching and coaching tennis for over 30 years in and around the Sacramento area. He is a three-time USPTA NorCal Pro of the Year and a two-time Coach of the Year. Doug is a USPTA/USTA Certified Specialist in Player Development having completed the USTA High Performance Coaching Program. In 2000, the USPTA honored Doug with the Silver Anniversary Outstanding Teacher of the Past 25 Years and Inside Tennis Magazine selected him the Pro of the Decade in the 1980’s. In 2001, he was recognized by the USPTA as one of the Top 10 Educators in the nation. He is a member of the NorCal Coaching Commission and ran the USTA Area Training Center for 13 years. His USTA NorCal Junior Team Tennis squads have won six NorCal Championships and five State titles. Doug also continues to coach pro player, Sam Warburg, currently #152 in singles and #117 in doubles on the ATP world tour.

Patrick Ryan, Tennis Professional
Patrick Ryan has taught and coached Tennis for over 20 years and has been on the coaching staff at Broadstone Racquet Club for 4 years. Pat is certified by United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) as a teaching professional and instructs children and adults from ages 3 to 80 -- beginners through advanced levels. Currently Pat is the Head Varsity Coach for the Oak Ridge High School Boys Tennis Team. During the summer, he coaches the boy 18’s in USTA Team Tennis.

Pat’s strengths as an instructor include stroke analysis and development, match strategy, motivation and encouragement, match focus and emotional control.

“Tennis is a sport for life,” Pat said. “ It helps us have a healthy, happy and high quality of life. It’s a game we can play throughout our lives.”
